Who’s leading

Hi, I’m Jia Yong.

I’m a project and technical lead based in Kuala Lumpur and the founder of Soft Lead Solutions. Right now I’m leading three live projects with around 18 people between them.

What I’m best at is the stretch between idea and launch: turning an idea into a clear plan, making the technical calls early, and getting a team, senior or junior, shipping on a steady rhythm. I also lead Soft Lead’s own engineering team, so growing developers is part of my week, not an extra.

Is this a good fit?

What does a freelance technical lead actually do?

I plan the roadmap, set the technical direction and guide your developers through delivery. In practice: scoping, architecture and stack decisions, sprint planning, code reviews and keeping releases moving.

How is this different from hiring a CTO?

You get someone technical in the room without a full-time CTO hire. I join per project or part-time and step back once things are running smoothly.

Who owns the product and the code?

You do. You keep ownership of the product, the budget and the team. I lead the roadmap, the architecture and the delivery.

Does my team need to be senior?

No. I lead teams of senior and junior developers, and mentoring is part of the job. If you’re still deciding who to hire, including whether juniors or interns make sense for your project, I’ll give you an honest view before you commit.

Do you also build websites?

Yes, as a separate service. You see a design preview before you commit to the build. See website design & development.
